Who Can Volunteer?
The Medical Reserve Corps needs people with all kinds of skills to perform a wide variety of duties. Practicing, retired, or otherwise employed medical professionals, such as doctors, nurses, emergency medical technicians, pharmacists, nurses' assistants, veterinarians and others with medical training are encouraged to volunteer. What Will The Medical Reserve Corps Do In An Emergency?
Large-scale emergencies can quickly overwhelm the resources of the community, especially within the first 12 to 72 hours. MRC volunteers will be activated to assist in implementation of specific disaster response plans. The role of the Medical Reserve Corps will change, depending on the type, severity and geographic area of the emergency.

Some of the roles that could be filled by MRC teams include:
Assisting with receiving and distribution of medical supplies and equipment from the Strategic National Stockpile.
Staffing vaccine clinics.
Providing medical care in alternate care facilities, in the event that the hospital infrastructure is damaged or overwhelmed.

Where Will I Volunteer?
Because the Medical Reserve Corps of West Georgia serves a twelve-county area, volunteers may be needed anywhere within the area, or may even be asked to assist in another district. Volunteers may specify which county or counties they wish to volunteer in and whether they would be willing to assist in another district. All participation in emergency response activities is voluntary.
